Apartment Singel is located in a national monument building in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The flat covers two floor levels and requires overall transformation. The task is assigned to the Dutch studio Laura Alvarez Architecture. Their main purpose of the new apartment interior design is to turn the rather dark and small space into a modern bright loft and to highlight elements of the ancient building.
The lower floor of the apartment includes the living area. The place is designed as an open-plan space which unites all the rooms. A small entrance hall leads into the 70m² space that shelters the living and dining areas and the kitchen area. They are separated by a modern light steel staircase. Part of the kitchen counter is placed under the staircase which saves space. Clean white walls and ceilings prevail in the apartment interior design of this floor level. They make the whole space look bigger and brighter. For the same reason the floors are also designed in a light neutral color by using grey epoxy. The wooden elements in the furniture come in contrast with all the bright surroundings and warm up the place.

On the second floor the clean modern look of the apartment interior design is kept. Here are sheltered the main bedroom, a bathroom and a guest room. Both rooms are open to a corridor but can be separated if need be. There is a lot of storage and wardrobe space thanks to the eleven meter long closet that goes along the whole length of the apartment. This level reflects the lower one quite a bit with its white walls and ceilings. The different elements in the apartment interior design here are the bamboo floor and the visible wooden roof beams of the building.
Apart from saving space and highlighting old building features, the architects pay special attention to the lighting. There is quite a bit of natural light and also a lot of artificial lighting that allows different options for the apartment. Color, material and lighting work together here to create a bright continuous space in this modern white apartment interior design by Laura Alvarez Architecture.
