This May was held one of the most important events for contemporary architectural society – Interarch 2012. The four day conference happening once every three years was held in Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. During that period of time architects and theoreticians gathered from all over the world to engage in discussions about modern architecture and engineering. The program was organized by the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) together with the Union of Architects in Bulgaria and the University of architecture, civil engineering and geodesy, Sofia (UACEG).
The Triennial was held in the building of UACEG that provided a large main auditorium and plenty of space for discussions and exhibitions. The event was officially open on May 13-th (Sunday) at 3 pm with an introduction to the guest architects and continued with author conferences until the evening. The next three days consisted of more author conferences, as well as documentary film projections and firm presentations. The four long and exciting days of Interarch 2012 gathered many students, architects, designers and even non-specialists who enjoyed the event until its very end in Wednesday with a closing ceremony at 8 pm.
Modern architecture project by Helmut Jahn
The architectural event brought together many famous architects from various countries who shared their knowledge and experience with the crowd. Among the guests of Interarch 2012 were architects Nicholas Grimshaw from England, Daniel Liebeskind from the USA, Helmut Jahn from Germany, Fumihiko Maki and Riken Yamamoto from Japan, Paolo Cucchi, Alfonso Mercurio and Amedeo Schiattarella from Italy, Mikhail Mamoshin from Russia, Vakhtang Davitaia from Georgia, Ahmet Vefik Alp from Turkey, Paul-Andre Tetreault from Canada, Juhani Pallasmaa from Finland, Lino Bianco and Richard England from Malta and more. All these notable participants held open presentations about contemporary architecture’s trends and problems that were both educational and inspirational for the numerous audience.
Interarch 2012 – Project
Interarch 2012 also included several curious exhibitions showing projects of architectural graduation works and different competitions which were judged by an international jury.
