The ‘Klammer Residence’ By architektur.terminal hackl und klammer
A tasteful example of modern house architecture this private house was constructed on the edge of Klaus in Austria. The ‘Klammer Residence’ benefits from a superb location surrounded by rich natural vegetation and tree clad hillsides. The designer’s, ‘Architektur.Terminal’, selected a modern architectural style that would enable the house to integrate with its beautiful natural surroundings. The ‘Klammer Residence’ is a modest two storey construction built as a comfortable family home. The profile of the house is interestingly asymmetric, enabling it to blend easily within the organic lines of the surrounding environment.
Full advantage of the spectacular views across the valley can be taken from the installation of generous windows to the south elevation. A private inner courtyard is at the centre of this modern architectural design. The main building is constructed around this on a C section which makes maximum advantage of the available space. For extra privacy and security an additional feature of the courtyard is a concrete parapet.
Modern architectural design
The main living areas of this modern architectural house are on an elevated level with an additional terrace incorporated on this storey to create an accessible physical union between exterior and interior living. To further reduce barriers between inside and outside, very generous glass walls open, if required, onto this enclosed sheltered area.
An open quality with uninterrupted views is clearly paramount to the enjoyment of the modern house architecture on this level. In contrast, the rear and side elevations have been designed to provide welcome privacy and seclusion. To compliment the reflective and crystal qualities of the ample fenestration, natural slate cladding has been used providing a dark grey matt finish. This presents a fine visual contrast and at the same time is highly protective against the changing seasons. An extra aesthetic has been added to the modern house architecture as the slate cladding has been applied using raised ‘standing seams’. Through the introduction of this fine irregular linear element, the shadowy surfaces are imbued with a fascinating dynamic quality as they interact with shifting light conditions. This is a exceptional example of modern house architecture which has been sensitively linked to the natural landscape which surrounds it..
