Minimal House design by Zerafa Studio of New York
Solid and impenetrable ‘Riverside House’ is a property of two distinct contrasts. From the exterior the austere minimalist house design appears weighty and somewhat brooding on the landscape. It defies unwanted intrusions providing the occupants with the privacy they desire. The interior however offers a completely contrasting appearance. The true beauty of the house cannot be appreciated unless you are lucky enough to be invited inside.
The location of this dignified minimalist house is near the world famous beauty spot of ‘Horseshoe Falls. Long uninterrupted views of the Niagra river provided the inspiration which directed the orientation and structure of ‘Riverhouse’. The generous use of floor to ceiling glass panels on the enclosed terrace arose from the architect’s principal desire to facilitate full enjoyment of the fabulous river views.
Minimalist house design – Riverside house
With an emphasis on the horizontal plain, the architecture is comprised of three distinct unadorned volumes. The heavy quality of the facades results from the dominant use of earthy masonry and granite panels. Equally solid but rather warmer in appearance, cedar cladding has been introduced to add areas of subtle contrast. The only relief from the density of these materials is offered through the ample fenestration and inset balcony areas.
Within ‘Riverside House’ the minimalist house design offers the occupants a luxurious contemporary lifestyle. The house is flooded with light and the airy interior is enhanced by the crisp clean lines associated with minimalist interior design. The main living areas are positioned in a linear space which bridges the width of the site. This enables fabulous views across the river to be enjoyed from all aspects in this section. The superbly spacious master bedroom suite also enjoys the same orientation but from the second floor.
Minimalist house design
The whole interior design is sleek shiny and ultra modern. Minimalist design principles have been strictly adhered to with the beauty of the living spaces arising chiefly from creative planning and aesthetic layout of the functional elements. These areas are lavishly fitted with a combination of the most luxurious materials. Exemplifying the sophisticated and streamlined nature of the interior, the kitchen features an elegant combination of grey aluminum and cool laminates against a glass wall. The pale kitchen work tops are built from crisply engineered quartz. These contain integrated sinks and wet areas that correspond to the huge island unit. On the breakfast bar a rich walnut veneer adds a hint of warmth to the otherwise monochromatic design scheme.
So to summarize, the duality of this minimalist house design offers the family total privacy from the outside and maximum exposure to the natural environment from inside the haven that is ‘Riverside House’.
