Innovative lamp design – Etch Web Lamp
British designer Tom Dixon comes up with an innovative lamp design collection he calls Etch. The set includes three individual models. Two of them are pendant type lamps and the other is a candle holder.
The first piece of this lamp set is Etch Web – a pendant lamp with a 65cm wide shade. Its structure is made out of copper threads to represent a spider web.
The most interesting thing in this innovative lamp design is the various angular shadows it casts when the light is on. An irregular pentagon form is spread repeatedly across the structure to create a complete sphere and the pattern is repeated in a spectacular play of shades. The structure of the globe is very light – only 980g and it gives an aerial feeling to it. The LED oversized bulb is suspended in the center of the lamp to complete the innovative lamp design.

The second model of the Etch collection is also a pendant type – the Etch Light Brass. It has an acid etched shade structure made from brass sheets. The structure in this design has a thicker grid and lets less light out. It creates a different light effect expressed in the shadows it casts. The shades this innovative lamp design produces have a denser pattern and create a more private and a little mysterious atmosphere.
The third piece of Tom Dixon’s set is the Etch Candle Holder which is made from 0.4mm etched metal sheets. The body is covered with numerous circular holes in different sizes. When a candle is placed inside and lit the light sparkles beautifully producing intricate shadows that look like bursts of light. The burst effect and the benefit of candle light make this innovative lamp design the most intimate of all three.
