Exhibited by LG Hausys at the 2012 Milan Design Week Exhibition
As part of 2012 Milan Design Week, LG Hausys exhibited a kitchen made entirely from the innovative material known as HI-MACS®. Their display centers on a highly sculptural modern kitchen design.
The design is dramatic and very beautiful. In essence the traditional kitchen components are not changed but the form these take is pioneering. White was selected to maximize the sculptural qualities of the kitchen furniture. The horizontal ribbed surface is a key design feature and this exaggerates the exciting curvilinear volumes. The interplay of light and shadow on these pieces is dramatic and dynamic yielding endless shifts in the perception of form.
The exhibition space is generous and illuminated to show this sculptural modern kitchen design to its best advantage. The overall impact is both organic and futuristic with the unity of free flowing and streamlined shapes and volumes creating a uniquely different kitchen environment.
Sculptural Modern Kitchen Design from HI-MACS®
The material chosen for the manufacture of this sculptural modern kitchen design is pivotal in enabling the elaborate design to be brought to fruition. HI-MACS® is described as a ‘New Generation’ solid surface material with distinct advantages over traditional kitchen construction materials. It comes in numerous different colors and is highly versatile. It is possible to mold this material into any shapes or designs without the need for visible joins. It is very tough and hygienic so perfect for the normal ‘heavy duty’ activities associated with a home kitchen. In the event that units do suffer damage it is easy to repair this flexible material.
So back to the appearance of this sculptural modern kitchen design, obviously this has been purpose built for the exhibition, but the display does show the potential for incorporating aspects of this design into the modern home interior. Due to the flexibility of the material it would be possible to have a kitchen custom built to suit the style and space available in any individual situation. It would appear that the color and forms could be modified to suit personal tastes.
This exhibition could point to the future for modern kitchen interior designs especially for people who want to introduce a spectacular design statement into their homes.
