Industrial Interior Design Makes a Fun Loving Family Home

Industrial Interior Design Makes a Fun Loving Family Home

by Thank Balbank of the 2B Group studio, Kiev Ukraine

Such an exciting interior, this apartment proves that industrial interior design can be elegant and fun loving at the same time.

There is nothing cold or impersonal about Thank Balbank’s fabulous design scheme.  This modern loft apartment is very large and it took a creative approach to make the home welcoming as well as ultra stylish.  ‘2B Studio’ proved quite categorically that “concrete could be warm, wood could be smooth and metal could be soft.”

The main arrangement of the industrial interior design is over three floors with an open plan design aspect to the main living areas and the master suite.

Every type of contemporary industrial related material has bee incorporated into this industrial interior design.  The majority of structures and materials have been selected for their aesthetic qualities as well as functionality but there is also a sense of humor apparent which makes a refreshing change from architects who take themselves too seriously.  Great examples of this can be seen throughout this industrial interior design.  For example, in the graffiti style cartoon characters decorating the concrete walls in the children’s rooms, the walls of one bathroom, the chalk board in the dining room and the amusing solution found to conceal the WC in the master suite.  This was disguised as a shipping container!

On a more serious note, this whole apartment is a work of art.  A rich array of exciting materials, textures, patterns and forms are brought together within this industrial interior design in the most enlivening and harmonious manner.  The predominantly neutral colors of the walls facilitate full appreciation of this dynamic correlation of surfaces and forms.

Nature is brought into the industrial interior design scheme by the stunning living wall of luscious planting.  This feature grows vertically all the way through the home. What a fabulous way to add a soft green freshness to contrast with the more unyielding manmade materials.

Right at the top of the penthouse apartment fantastic panoramic views can be enjoyed from the superb roof garden.  This zone includes a luxurious sun deck, a cozy fire pit and super stylish seating area featuring handcrafted wooden benches.  When the weather is too chilly the same scenery can be appreciated from the shelter of a gorgeous glass walled pavilion.
