esign and furniture by Atelier SAD
This modern loft design is created by Prague-based studio Atelier SAD. The apartment is located on the twelfth floor of a multi-functional building in Bratislava, Slovakia. Since the building is from 1998 it needed to be renovated. The renovation project includes a 108m² flat area and a terrace which is even larger with its 151m².
Modern loft decoration
The main purpose of the new design for the modern loft is to achieve more usable living space. This is done by enlarging the living room and integrating the terrace to the interior space.
The kitchen is moved from its original position to clear space for the living area. The terrace is covered with a roof and enclosed with glass walls. Its large area is used as another living space with an open plan. That space consists of a dining area with a barbeque, a Jacuzzi, a lounge area and a bedroom area. The loft interior in the apartment itself shelters another living area and bedroom. The wall, ceiling and floor surfaces in them are replaced with new ones. Wooden flooring and furniture is combined with white wall and ceiling surfaces, and some artistic decoration. On the modern loft’s terrace, the surfaces are also changed and the bearing structure is expressed. Here we have dark reddish wood for the floors and furniture and a darker wood for the beams. They make a contrast with the white wall and ceiling surfaces.
The transition between the two parts of the apartment is made through a set of large glass doors that keep the spaces visually connected. That openness in the loft interior gives a sense for more space and keeps the bond between the separate living areas. The privacy in the different bedrooms though is kept; they are placed in more enclosed spaces and each is visible only from its respective living area.
