O-shaped house in Chile
This unusual modern house is designed by Toyo Ito & Associates architects. Its location is set in Marbella, Chile. The area of the project is 370 m² and the plan of the building is designed in an interesting elliptic shape.
The plan of the house is composed together with the site plan as one. The terrain has a slight slope to the north-east revealing beautiful sights in that direction. That inspires the architects to design the house in such shape so that these views can be enjoyed from every room.
Modern O-shaped house
Not only that, they wanted to create a united space that flows throughout the house. That is achieved by a spiral path that winds around an inner garden. It flows with the basement floor and goes up to the ground floor where the more private rooms are.
The floor plan of the house has two levels – basement and ground floor. The basement consists of: parking space, laundry room, service room, bathroom and bedroom. On the second floor there are three more bedrooms, a large kitchen and an open plan living area.
The plan of the house is arranged according to the site. The garage and the common rooms are located on the basement floor and are reachable from the street while the living area and the bedrooms are on the upper floor where more privacy is available.
The exterior and the interior are a bit rough. The concrete is left visible on walls, columns and ceilings. This gray image goes together with the use of stone tiles for the floors inside and the paths in the garden. All that roughness is soften a bit by the warmer furniture color, home textile and pictures hung on the walls. The huge windows and glass walls allow a lot of light to enter the spaces inside and reveal vivid landscapes.
