‘1001 Nights’ House was designed by A-Cero studio of Madrid, Spain
The ‘1001 Nights’ House is a contemporary concrete residence that will intrigue anyone who wants to explore innovative design possibilities using this highly versatile material. Whatever you thoughts are concerning concrete architecture, be prepared to be impressed.
The private face of a spectacular contemporary concrete residence
A-Cero architects have constructed this spectacular contemporary concrete residence like futuristic fortress. The extensive sculptural forms of ‘1001 Nights’ House are intriguingly captivating but will only allow your attention to travel so far. This is a remarkably private house. We can only speculate on what wonders the exterior edifice conceals. The front façade blocks all sight of the interior through a system of brutally beautiful curved volumes. These are all wedge shaped but each block varies in dimensions and degree of curvature.
The asymmetric arrangement adds a dynamic quality to the powerful composition. The aesthetic quality of this contemporary concrete residence dominates all other considerations. Even if we can’t see beyond the exterior what we can enjoy is this massive sculptural statement. The powerful concrete volumes are exaggerated by the relatively narrow spaces between them. The action of light on these forms is dramatic and constantly changing, depending on the time of day and the seasons. Nature in this way influences this celebration of manmade achievements.
The main entrance to the ‘1001 Nights’ House is built deep within its imposing façade adding an additional air of mystery to what lies beyond. The rear elevation to the property is all together more open and large glass panels allow light and air to flood into the hidden interior.
Minimalist landscaping enhances the contemporary concrete residence
The front entrance of ‘1001 Nights’ House is approached via a wide stone path. Either side of this, the hard landscaping appears to have been influenced by the construction of Japanese Zen gardens, with vast areas of white pebbles covering the ground. Into these, shallow scoops have been made, to create simple but stunning decorative pools. By night these unusual water features are illuminated by LED lighting as is the main house. This presents a fascinating display in which all elements of this awe inspiring contemporary concrete residence are united by light.
