House by Architects ‘Planning Korea’ of Seoul
Inspired by nature ‘Jeju Cocoon House’, is a sensationally original design by architects ‘Planning Korea’. Conceived organically this innovative house design is a fascinating composition of forms. At the centre is a curvilinear pod shaped volume which connects two more angular constructions. The inspiration behind the design is the volcanic landscape forms on Jeju Island as well as the organic cocoon of a living creature. The main open plan living space is located in the fantastically formed centre. The idea is that this is a protective and nurturing zone. It also adds a distinctive sculptural element to the modern house architecture.
In keeping with the main form of the cocoon, circular windows are installed which control light and temperature depending on climatic and seasonal conditions. The definition between floor, walls and ceiling are naturally blurred which adds an enigmatic intriguing quality to this multi purpose living space.
The diversity of forms planned in this innovative house design reflects the unique forest area called the ‘Gotjawal’. Due to its high humidity and mild temperature this is home to the coexistence of many different species of fascinating flora and fauna. Not only has the visual form of the modern house architecture been influenced by the natural environment, the designers also plan to build this innovative house design using only materials sourced from the island. This project intends to provide a healthy and eco friendly living environment.
The arrangement of the modern house architecture has been carefully organized to maximize comfort and enjoyment for the occupants. The asymmetry of rooms to the left and right of the cocoon area are at different heights and orientations to facilitate changing views of the beautiful surroundings. The ground floor of this innovative house design interestingly planned over three different levels. The central cocoon is on the highest of these and opens on to an exterior courtyard. Further spaces for relaxing in this lovely environment outside are planned as a roof garden which includes a welcome pool area.
Still in the planning stages, this fabulous project is scheduled to start in September 2012. It will be interesting to see the end result.
