This attractively inventive modern house design incorporates a tasteful and imaginative system of sinuous curving elements to connect separate living areas and multiple storeys.
The house is based in the old ‘Fishing Town’ quarter of El Campello in Spain. The surrounding architecture is of a specific and traditional style, usually limited to one or two floors. The challenge for the architects ‘Momo Estudio’ was to develop a relatively small site that existed between two existing buildings. To maximize the use of the space the only solution was to develop the property upwards.
To expand the illusion of space and light within this intelligent house design the whole is dominated by brilliant white interior design scheme. Translucent walls are used to enable available light to flood the house. Natural light is supplemented by multiple spotlights which stud the lofty ceilings. The house design is typically mimimalist in its tasteful furnishings which combine a perfect balance between function and form. Nothing superfluous is incorporated into the white interior design which remains free from unnecessary clutter. The beauty of this architecture is allowed to stand out independently without competition from distracting elements.
The dominant feature of the house is the system of interrelated arcs which unite spiraling stairs curved walls and winding corridors. The overall impression is therefore, one of a sinuous elegance which extends a visual harmony to each area in the house. This curvilinear dimension also creates a clear relationship between the architectural elements and the natural forms associated with this typical seaside location
Although the facade of the house design is fundamentally minimalist, features such as the simple but decorative balcony promote a visual connection to neighboring, more traditional properties. The angularity of the house is prevented from appearing too dominant or incongruous by the incorporation of a system of diminishing balconies.
The scale of this house might be relatively small but its white interior design is massive on aesthetic impact. Perhaps the most exciting feature is the central winding staircase which spirals up to an open circle in the roof. This provides a poetic glimpse of the ever changing sky framed by the dramatic lines and shapes of the fabulous architecture.
